Sounds

Sounds can add a whole new level of realism to our hobby.

Building our own railway, we wanted to add occasional sound in stations, wagons and scenery but struggled for suitable units at the right price. We worked to develop our own standalone unit available below and also stock the very capable Massoth Melody Module for DCC systems.

Standalone Sound

Our sound module is ideal for those wanting to add some sound effects to their layout either in a building or wagon. It is designed for short clips like announcements and sound effects to enhance the realism of your scene - eg: railway crossing bells or animals in trackside fields.

  • 7 sound effects stored and played back

  • 5 Watt speaker for clear localised audibility

  • Upload your own sound clips or use our customisation service (see below)

  • Mounting lugs on the case to secure

  • Moisture-resistant speaker on short cable offers flexible positioning in a model

  • Power inlet cable included - just wire in to your low voltage DC lighting circuit

  • Flexible triggering options - see below.

The module accepts a wide voltage input of 9V to 24V DC so suitable for anything from a PP3 battery, solar panel, or model lighting circuit. The module will work on a DCC supply but we recommend against this as it will affect the electronics after time.

Kit 1 - Standard, customisable @ £ 23.00 ***Our Recommendation*** (not pictured)

Our sound module with a speaker and power input cable. 2m control cables pre-wired. Wiring guidance included for you to make your own control panel or use triggers like reed switches and magnets.

Ideal for fitting in a station building or goods wagon and creating automated playback. Wiring is simply for even amateur electricians!

Buttons and switches are available separately - let us know what you might need.

Kit 2 - Standard with Remote @ £ 40.00 ***Ready to use out of the box

Our sound module with a speaker, power input cable and wired remote control. Trigger sounds from up to 3m from the module. The remote is not waterproof so should be taken inside when not in use. All low voltage so safe to use in the damp though.

Suitable for simple, standalone controls and letting your visitors control the sounds. Great for kids.

Customise your sounds!

Generic sounds are all well and good but to make things far more realistic, we can customise your sound module sounds. Made up station names?.... No problem! Modelling the RhB?.... No problem! Get sounds to suit your layout with one of our three simple and cost effective options:

Option 1 - Send us your recordings @ £ FREE

Visit your local railway, record a sound on your phone, download a sound effect and send us 7 files. If you require edits, we charge a fixed £7 per module for simple work like shortening clips.

Option 2 - Announcements by Phone @ £ 9

We'll schedule a telephone call with you and record you making announcements - be your own miniature station master! The call should take less than 15 minutes and allows for 2-3 'takes' per announcements. We'll send you the clips to preview.

Option 3 - Custom, Language Announcements @ from £ 15

Is your layout set in Germany or Switzerland? Or would you rather an actor read your announcements? Send us your station names or script and we'll arrange for one of our British, German or Swiss contacts to record an authentic customised announcement for your layout.

"Dies ist ein RhB-Zug nach Milton Keynes Central. Nächster Halt, Bletchley."

Massoth Melody Module

Massoth's sound module offers up to 12 sounds and is ideal for DCC layouts, enabling you to recall sounds from your Digital Control system. It comes with standard sounds of passers by talking and a selection of animals. It can be used to randomly play sounds on an analogue layout or two sounds triggered by a contact input. If you have a computer controlled layout, many automated possibilities exist!

It should be mounted inside a building or wagon and protected from the elements. If using inside a wagon, it is recommended to be used with a power buffer. Sounds can be changed if you have the Massoth PC module / service interface. A volume control is also available. It can be run from a 9V battery (battery connection sold repeatedly and needs to be soldered on) or DCC.

We can configure and add our customised announcements for a small fee - please enquire with your requirements.
